£419K Awarded to Six Companies

Author: Gareth Smyth
  1. Chesterfield based engineering company awarded £35k taking total claims to £154k

Incorporated in 1999, the company is a largely bespoke engineer, working in areas incorporating sheet metal, fabrications, welding, laser cutting, machine repairs and general machining. Combined with significant experience within its workforce, the company is determined to be able to react as quickly as possible to meet its customer needs, but more importantly it seeks to develop permanent solutions to problems, many of which have been attempted by others without success.

  1. London based cycling products company received £117k in second claim

Incorporated in 2018, the company was formed to bridge the gap between cycling innovation and technology. They are aiming to make it simpler and safer by producing a helmet made with recycled ocean plastic that fits in a commuter bag. This tends to have an impact on people’s desire to ride a bike and on their perception of necessary safety, with many accidents occurring due to people negating it as a requirement to their enjoyment.

  1. Greater Manchester based engineering group awarded £16k

The group operates exclusively as a R&D facility which provides highly specialised, one-off prototypes and bespoke complex engineering solutions to a wide variety of industrial sectors. The group has highly specialist expertise and extensive experience of designing and manufacturing bespoke special purpose tooling and automated production and computer controlled industrial equipment. Their customers cover a wide area of engineering sectors, but the group operates predominantly in the aerospace, automotive and industrial sectors which requires the very highest of standards and all equipment is manufactured and thoroughly tested at their purpose-built facility using stringent quality assurance accreditations.

  1. Leicestershire based electrical company received £172k taking total claims to £585k

The company was founded in 1965 and is part of a larger group. The company’s product portfolio stretches from pushbutton systems and isolators to sophisticated process control and software solutions. Much of the business is focussed on the stocking and distribution of automation and control products; these products are sourced from 50 of the world’s best suppliers comprising around 60,000 separate electrical, electronic, and pneumatic items. In addition to major R&D projects supported by the company’s staff from head office, the regional offices also initiate R&D projects themselves to address specific challenges encountered by their customers.

  1. Leicester based automation and control company awarded £31k

Established in 1976, the company is part of control and automation group. The company often acts as its customers’ control and automation arm, although much of the R&D that underpins the work has to be carried out at risk since it must demonstrate successful outcomes to receive orders. Many projects involve working with partners specialising in the control systems. The work carried out by the company is to a standard that complies with the ISO 9001:2008 quality management standard, ensuring that the systems are built to the highest standards.

  1. Staffordshire based manufacturing received £47K

Founded over 10 years ago, the company is now one of the largest independent contract manufacturers in the UK. They have developed close partnerships with customers in many sectors but particularly in Power Distribution, Renewable Energy, Food Processing and Machine Tools. Continuous investment in the development of new manufacturing processes allows the company to respond quickly to the ever-changing requirements of their global customers. All new orders require a degree of R&D to define the most economical process for their production.
