A brand new charity event to raise funds for one of Europe’s largest cancer treatment centres is being supported by K3 Capital Group tax consultant Emma Rand.

The world-renowned Christie Hospital in Manchester is extremely close to Emma’s heart, for her husband Neil was treated there for a brain tumour over a two-year period until his untimely passing in April 2013 when their children, Ella and Josh, were only seven and eight years of age.

Emma’s grandfather, Alf, was also under the Christie’s care, likewise her current partner, Gilly Morgan, who is a prostate cancer survivor and now promotes awareness of the disease via the This Van Can campaign. Also, Emma’s best friend, Elona, has lymphoma which is being kept under control thanks to the work of The Christie.

On Sunday June 4th, the first Bridgewater Way Walk will take place to raise funds for The Christie’s Bloods Closer To Home service, which enables patients to book blood-test appointments at more convenient times and locations for them, rather than making what can be draining journeys from home to The Christie on top of their ongoing treatment.

The Bridgewater Way Walk follows a five-mile route along the Bridgewater Canal, starting adjacent to the Trafford Centre and finishing at the Castlefield Basin on the edge of Manchester city centre.

Among a group of five who are participating in the walk with the aim of raising £200 each, Emma, who works for randd within the K3 Capital Group, is being supported with a company dress-down day on Friday June 2nd when colleagues can make a donation for wearing casual clothing in the office.

“I can’t give enough back to The Christie for the way they have helped my loved ones,” said Emma. “It’s so close to me and I can’t tell you how much they have done. I’m happy to do anything I can for them.”

The Bridgewater Way Walk is a part of Emma and her friends in the Jigsaw7 group’s quest to take on a different experience in each month of 2023 to help others, which is also comprising voluntary work as well as charity fund-raising.
